The initiative group
which included teachers and students of the Dnipropetrovsk College of
Culture was created in 1998. All activities were aimed at preserving the
national cultural heritage, supporting modern Ukrainian culture,
cooperating with regional cultural centers of national minorities,
charity, finding and supporting talented children and youth.
The following events were held from 1998 to 2002:
- International Folk Dance Festival for Children and Youth "To Sunny Springs" (1999),
with support of International Renaissance Foundation, which was
attended by dance groups of Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and
Moldova.
- Three regional festivals of modern Ukrainian music "Autumn Starfall",
which were attended by children and young people from cities and
villages of Dnipropetrovsk region mainly from low-income families and
unprotected categories (2000-2002). The Organization received a grant
from the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine for holding the second festival.
- Regional
Charity Creativity Festival of and publication of collection of poems
by children with health problems "Believe in Yourself" (2001).

Many different charity cultural events were held in cooperation with
cultural centers of national minorities, local commercial structures,
and government authorities.
Teachers
and students of the Dnipropetrovsk College of Culture participated in
all the events on a voluntary basis, students received practical
experience necessary for working in modern cultural institutions.
Non-Governmental
Organization "Center for Civic and Cultural Initiatives Support" was
registered in 2001. It was re-registered as Non-Governmental
Organization "Center for Civic and Cultural Initiatives Support
"Tamarisk" in 2007.
The
Organization implemented more than 50 projects aimed at developing civil
society and involved 44 grants from international donor organizations.

The purpose of the project: to increase information and communication capabilities of at least 20 CSOs of Eastern and Central Ukraine via training professional communicators and creating partnership between organizations, that will facilitate raising awareness of the citizens about essence of reforms, improvement communication between CSOs and local self-government authorities, increase of CSO information impact and involving citizens in decision-making process at the local level...
The purpose of the project: to increase the capacity of at least 20 CSOs in Dnipropetrovsk region to anticipate the risks associated with human rights activities, and to find the right solutions and actions to overcome crises by training their representatives in the "School of Public Activist Security"...
As part of a joint project, Tamarisk Center experts conducted a study of the level of implementation of local democracy instruments in three united territorial communities of Dnipropetrovsk region: Vasylkivska, Tsarychanska, Pokrovska: general meetings, public hearings, participation budget, local initiatives, petitions, etc...
During four years, with the financial support of the Mott Foundation, our organization was able to work effectively in the following strategic program areas:
- Support for public initiatives. Information, methodological, organizational and resource support; organizing the cooperation and information support.

The purpose of the competition is to support in the cities of Mariupol and Nikopol the projects aimed at monitoring the activities of local self-government, implementation of the principles of transparency and accountability in local self-government sector, involvement of young people in finding innovative methods of fighting and preventing corruption. Representatives of the Center "Tamarisk" took an active part in all activities of the joint project with partners on institutional development of the Hub Network of Civil Society of Ukraine. The public attention was attracted by a street action and a flash mob “Everyone Has the Right to Vote”, which was attended by representatives of non-governmental organizations, volunteers, students, and ordinary citizens.
